Origami paper can easily be purchased online and in craft stores and comes in squares of different sizes. It can be bought with one color on one side and white on the other, with different colors on either side, or with patterns.
Actually, any paper which holds a crease is suited for Origami and common copy paper is a good alternative, just like paper money. Of course you can make use of the traditional Japanese origami paper which is called Washi.
Usually, no tools are used, but a flat surface, a bone folder to sharpen the creases, or tweezers for making small folds, can come in handy. I also read that paper clips can help when you need an extra pairs of fingers and a ruler and embosser work well with scoring the creases.
There are lots of instructions, workshops, books and examples which can be found in stores and online.
It certainly is a very artistic, creative, and cheap hobby. As far as simple and easy go; ehhh, I am not so sure about that!
