You could even go to a storage units owner and ask his/her permission to break the monotony of the units' appearance with your creativity.
You will need (spray)paint, brushes, mouth cover, and an airbrush and most likely a tarp to lay down on the ground; you just want the door to be painted, not the entire driveway.
Make sure the weather is cooperating: when it is hot, the paint may dry too quick. Wind and rain may mess up your artwork as well, unless you can work under a cover or shelter of some sorts.
Try to keep kids at a distance; you don't want them to breath in the paint when you are using an airbrush and it saves you a lot of concerns and aggravation.
Another thing to watch out for are pets; dogs and cats are rather curious and may decide to sign your artwork by leaving a few paw prints behind.
I don't know why, but those ready made garage door covers sound better by the minute! Grin.

A few paw prints... That will be cute. It's original masterpiece =)
BBQ,
I think so too, but I can imagine the artist would have a different opinion, haha.
God's Grace.
