Pinewood Derby Cars: Designs And Templates

I wasn't aware of Pinewood Derby Car races until our oldest grandson joined the cub scouts and had to make one. He received a car kit from the scouts, was told to shape it in anything he wanted, and was given the date it had to be ready for the race.

That sounded easy enough, but it sure wasn't.

Upon some research we found out there were rules to follow, tactics and strategies to make the car go faster, and a weight limit.

We did the best we could and the result was not too shabby.

Grandson even won second place in his division and came home with a trophy. He was as proud as a peacock and rightfully so. That's pretty good considering it was our first design.

The car kit came with a template, but we stuck to our own vision.

In case you are in need of ideas, do a search on the Internet and you will find designs and templates galore.

You are not obligated to paint it, although it looks better when you do. For those with an unsteady hand, there are plenty of decals available to spruce up your project.

One piece of advice: give yourself plenty of time to design, carve, paint, and outfit the car to the rules and specifications.

If you don't, you may not finish!
