I would suspect craft/hobby glue is high on the list of materials you will need, along with a hobby knife and/or a pair of scissors. You may also consider painting the rolls and that can be done with water color paint, spray paint or (left over) wall paint.

Even though I couldn't find any books or workshops, there are lots of informative and instruction videos which can be found on the tube.
Yes, there are projects galore and many of the toilet paper arts are very suitable for children as well. It is time to roll up the sleeves and have some fun!
