In 2004, He contacted a former classmate who was a sculptor for Disney. Having spent a weekend with him and watching his work, he came home and began sculpting a Logan version of the Marvel X-Men character Wolverine.
He did some research online on the how and what and started his project for practicing purposes, posting his progress online with the request for feedback. This came to the attention of Randy Bowen of Bowen Designs, who offered to produce Ray's sculpture.

He also managed to real in clients like Warner Bros., MacFarlane Toys, Hasbro, Sideshow Collectibles, and several more.
In 2006, Ray made a commissioned piece for the DC Comics collectibles division and got a two-year exclusive contract with DC Direct out of it, which was renewed in 2008 for two more years. His talent permitted him to stop teaching all together and focus entirely on his sculpting projects, while working from home.
His creations of collectible figurines grew to an impressive selection including Batman, Superman, and other comic book heroes, as well as collectible figurines from movies such as Terminator, Ghost Rider, X-Men, and from the role-playing game World of Warcraft.
Ray Villafane expanded his interests and applied his skills to other materials as well; snow, other fruits and vegetables and, since three years ago, sand-sculpting.
No matter what material he lays his hands on, it is guaranteed to be transformed into a smashing success!
