Drawer Pull Creations

Someone once said that if they gave me a shoe string and a match stick I would craft something out of it. I laughed about that at the time, but you never guess what I found myself doing last weekend; I made drawer pulls out of... yes, shoe strings.

After seeing all those creative solutions on the Internet, I at first leaned towards replacing the existing and mostly broken drawer pulls with leather ones. It would have to be dark brown to fit in with the theme and colors of the room, but then I came across the monkey fist knot.

I tried that, but it didn't work out well and while I was playing with the dark brown shoe string I had used to try the knot, I wondered how it would look like if I crocheted it. Two rows worked out great and 10 shoe strings later our new pulls were born.

Even though the idea didn't require much work, the stiffness of the material made it slow-going, but it also resulted in some sturdy pulls. They are attached on the inside of the drawers with a tight knot.

The advantage of using string for the pulls is that you can customize their length to fit the already existing holes and make them as wide as you like or need to blend in with and compliment the decor.

Mission accomplished!
