Toothpick Art II

Toothpicks are usually made out of wood, but plastic, bamboo, metal, bone or other materials are manufactured as well.

Apparently, some sort of toothpick was already used ever since man walked the face of the earth. Signs that the teeth were picked at those early times, have been found after discovering and examining skulls from Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.

Before the invention of the toothbrush, toothpicks were the main objects to keep teeth clean. They were even a luxury item in the 17th century and often made out of gold and silver, well designed and adorned with precious stones.

In 1869, the first mechanically manufactured toothpicks came rolling out of the machines and nowadays, we can buy them almost anywhere for next to nothing.

It doesn't look like you will have any trouble finding toothpicks; you will find lots of easy pickings!
