Materials For Candle Art Part 2

Once you mastered the art of candle-making, you may want to expand your horizon by using different colors and playing with color combinations. Specifically made for candles, there are dyes and pigments which both have their own use and effects.

Dyes come in either a powder or a liquid and can be combined with the hot wax. You can determine the depth of the color by adding as little or as much as you like. The dye is highly flammable and will burn well without clogging the wick, but can fade over time due to heat, light, fragrance and other materials used in the candle.

Pigments are normally used for coating the outside of a candle with a solid layer of color. It gives instant gratification which is not prone to fading, but since it does not burn and when applied too thick, it can clog the wick.

Making scented candles is not so difficult with the wide selection in fragrant oils for candle making. These oils can be found in candle making supply stores online and in your area and allow you to create your own fragrance by mixing different oils together. Be sure though to check that the oils are compatible before blending them.

Online, you can find a list of all the available oils, some great 'recipes', and even suppliers that will blend the fragrant oils for you. All of the candle scents, as well as the dyes, pigments, and other additives, are perfectly safe for your health and none of them have an effect on sooting. This occurs when the wick is too long or when air-flow causes the flame to flicker.

If you don't want to go through all the trouble of fabricating your own candles then visit a specialized candle store like the one in the photo. You will be astonished by all the creativity and craftsmanship that have been poured into these amazing works of art!
