Tire Art - Materials and Equipment
You should have no problem finding old tires; some people have stacks of them, don't know what to do with them and would be more then happy getting rid of some.
It may well be you can take the tires home for next to nothing, which makes it even more exciting and lucrative to create art or using them for many other projects.
When it comes down to what sort of equipment to use; there are groovers available which are of great help 'carving' figures and images in the rubber.
I am not so sure how larger sculptures are held together, but my guess is they are either glued or melted to hold their shape.
You will need a saw and sharp chef's knife if you intend cutting up the tires and since it is hard labor, this requires a lot of strength.
There are not many instructions or workshops concerning tire art, but you can find lots of examples and ideas on a widely known video site.
Give it a shot and next time you burn some rubber; use the old tires for art, instead of throwing them by the wayside! :-)
