This OLD House
Thanks for the post from Sylvester Campbell
Buying a house is really taking a toll on my social life. I mean, I knew when I bought a fixer upper it wouldn’t be over night but I had no idea I’d literally spend every waking second working on this house. I think it’s ridiculous it takes some contractors three or four scheduled appointments to actually show up at your house and I also think it’s crazy how much some of this home improvement stuff costs! I’ve been looking at electric companies in dallas to change utility companies to get that cost down and I’ve been thinking about babysitting my nephews afterschool and after I get off work to make a little more money. I knew this house was going to be a lot of work but I didn’t think it was going to take up every second of every day. When I wake up in the morning on Saturday the first thing I do is think about what needs to be sanded or painted. Then when I lay my head down at night after 12 hours of work I can’t hardly go to sleep because I’m worried about what I forgot to do or what I missed! It’s really consuming and I feel like any extra money I have goes right to Lowe’s. I think sometimes it’s important to wait on a decision for longer than you think you do and that’s exactly what I wished I’d done with this house. I mean, I love the location and it’s got really good bones but I worry that I’m in over my head in the amount of work it’s going to need. I am afraid by the time I’m done I’m going to have spent so much money and time on it it may have made more sense to buy a finishedhouse in the first place. Who would have thought I’d end up with the handyman bug? I can’t believe I’ve gotten myself into this mess…
