Plastic Bag Art Part 2

I don't know about you, but I reuse the plastic grocery bags as a lining for our small garbage cans. I suppose that makes them double-use bags, instead of single-use bags, as they are also referred to.

These plastic bags have not been around that long, although patents for them can be traced back to the early 1950s. The manufacturing process was not as simple as it is now and it took until the 1960s when Sten Gustaf Thulin invented the lightweight plastic bags as we know them at present.

Before that, plastic bags were already in use as sandwich bags and in 1969, bread and produce followed.

The manufacturing of the plastic grocery bag took place in 1973 and in 1974 renowned department stores slowly but surely began to replace the paper bags by plastic ones.

Grocery stores followed this example in 1977 and ever since, the plastic bags have become standard and common materials for bagging up the purchased products at the check-out lanes.

Recycling has become more important over the past several years and we can help. We can crochet or knit all kinds of items, including our own grocery bags in any size and shape we like and they would be much stronger too.

Yup, we got a whole bag of tricks up your sleeves!
