Gourd Art - Materials and Equipment

I found it very interesting to learn that in 1937 The American Gourd Society was founded. Its headquarter is located in Kokomo, Indiana. Aside from this society, there are a gazillion other gourd art clubs and forums, online and otherwise, which you can join.

The materials you would need are totally dependent on what your intentions are concerning the gourd; if you like to paint it you will need other materials then when you would like to embellish it with wood burning or clay.

You can get lots of ideas by visiting gourd art shows and festivals. These are being held all over the States and it does not take up much time to find one near you by doing an online search. Maybe you are more interested in growing them yourself or the history behind the art; even for that several organizations can be found.

Either way, if this craft does not appeal to you and you bought some gourds for Thanksgiving then don't throw them out; someone else might be more then happy to take them of your hands!
