State Of The Art Snow-Sculptures
When winter gives you snow, make a snowman. But what if winter gives you tons of snow? Then you turn it into huge, intricate, very detailed, and amazing snow art for the entire world to admire.
What started in 1950 with a few snow statues in Odori Park by high school students has gradually grown into an event attracting artists and visitors from all over the globe.
The 64th, annual Sapporo Snow Festival, or Sapporo Yuki Matsuri, began on February the 5th of this year and will run through February 11. During this week, you can pay a visit to and will be awed by the over 200 snow sculptures that are on display here.
From characteristic Asian buildings to cartoon figures to fantasy sculptures and more, Hokkaido's capital Sapporo offers its over two million visitors a spectacle they are not likely to forget any time soon.
Some sculptures can be as large as over 80 feet wide and stand as tall as 50 feet, but there are also many smaller statues to look at. Several even function as a stage for concerts and other events.
When you get a chance to attend this International Snow Festival in Sapporo, Japan, I would certainly recommend it. If you think the snow sculptures are already state of the art then I would advice you to stay until dark when the statues are being lit up each day until 10 pm.
You don't want to miss out on that. It is a sight without comparison!
